Nobian becomes one of the first chlor-alkali producers to secure independently verified environmental footprints for all its low-carbon products

Nobian (Amersfoort, The Netherlands) recently obtained an Environmental Product Declaration for its ISCC PLUS certified Caustic Soda Microprills. With this achievement Nobian has now independently verified the environmental footprint of all its low-carbon products. 

Environmental Product Declarations (EPD®) 

Being at the beginning of the chemical value chain, Nobian actively supports its customers in becoming more sustainable and to reduce carbon emissions throughout the value chain. At Nobian, the environmental footprint of its products is calculated by performing industry standard Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs).

LCAs are an important method of providing transparent and comparable information on the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal or recycling. 

Nobian has taken this approach a step further by also obtaining Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). EPDs are independently verified Life Cycle Assessments that meet the strictest ISO standards for calculating the environmental footprint of products. This assures customers that Nobian’s environmental footprint data is reliable.

Portfolio of Low-Carbon Products

By obtaining an EPD for its Caustic Soda Microprills, Nobian now offers customers EPDs for all of its low carbon products. In addition to Caustic Soda Microprills, Nobian already secured EPDs for its ISCC PLUS certified Chlorine and Caustic Soda lye, as well as for its hydrogen certified under CMS 70. This makes Nobian one of the first chlor-alkali companies in Europe to offer independently verified environmental life cycle assessments for its Chlorine, Caustic Soda lye and Microprills products. 

Nobian’s ISCC PLUS or CMS70 certified products are produced using 100% renewable energy, resulting in a significantly lower carbon footprint for these products. Nobian will continue to explore opportunities to further expand its portfolio of low carbon products.
