Energy partner Adven and Nobian are cooperating to build a new electric caustic soda production plant in Delfzijl. The heart of the new energy-efficient electric evaporation plant is an industrial heat pump based on electricity. The electrification of caustic soda production in Delfzijl will reduce 25,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, an energy saving of 85%, equivalent to the emissions from approximately 198 million car miles. The plant will be operational in 2027.
This is the first time Nobian will apply this technology to the evaporation process for caustic soda. Through collaborations like this, we are accelerating our ambition for sustainable production by switching to electricity for this part of the process and to become less dependent on natural gas. The construction of this plant is part of the Tailor-made approach to reduce our CO₂ emissions more quickly, and includes support with the permitting process so that it can proceed more quickly.
