Chlorine products

Important in day-to-day life

Chlorine is an important chemical in our daily lives and a key building block for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Chlorine is produced from salt and water in  an energy-intensive electrolysis process. Caustic soda lye and hydrogen are produced at the same time.

Nobian produces chlorine in the Netherlands and Germany using the latest and most efficient membrane technology. Approximately 55% of European chemical production relies on this process and many chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals rely on chlorine during the manufacturing process.

ISCC PLUS Chlorine

Lower carbon footprint, identical quality

Depending on (local) availability, Nobian uses different energy sources in its production processes. Our ISCC PLUS certified chlorine is produced using 100% renewable energy, resulting in a significantly lower product carbon footprint compared to chlorine that uses fossil fuels. This solution provides customers with an environmentally friendly alternative without compromising on quality, as the chemical properties of our ISCC PLUS Chlorine are identical to those of the fossil-fuel-based material.

Hydrochloric acid

A strong, inorganic acid used in almost all sectors of industry

Hydrogen chloride (HCl), a colorless gas known as hydrochloric acid, is produced by the combustion of hydrogen and chlorine and is also a by-product of the chlorination of organic compounds. The concentration and quality of HCl determine the type of application. We are Europe’s leading merchant supplier of hydrochloric acid with a flexible set-up.

Iron chloride

Iron-based inorganic coagulants

Iron chloride (FeCl) is a coagulant produced from chlorine - either fresh chlorine or chlorine from hydrochloric acid - and iron. Iron chloride’s coagulation is an important process in water treatment to remove turbidity and particles, and to improve sludge dewatering. It acts as an inorganic coagulant. Coagulants are used to remove phosphate – a substance that has a fertilizing effect in water and can cause unwanted algae growth. We supply two forms of iron chloride.

Sodium hypochlorite

Basic inorganic chemical with a wide variety of uses

Our sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is an essential basic chemical for a wide range of  applications. It is produced by reacting chlorine with a solution of sodium hydroxide. Sodium hypochlorite, like chlorine, has very high reactivity and oxidizing power, but as a solution it is easier to handle and more cost effective than chlorine. We offer diluted  sodium hypochlorite solutions with different concentrations of active chlorine.
