Nobian produces green hydrogen using renewable electricity. As one of the few established producers already offering green hydrogen, we are at the forefront of this crucial substitute for fossil fuels in transport and mobility. Additionally, green hydrogen serves as an alternative energy carrier for storing renewable energy and supports new forms of circular chemistry by using CO₂ as a raw material instead of emitting it.
Our green hydrogen complies with the EU’s RFNBO standards. According to this official EU definition, green hydrogen can only be sold as a physical product and must be certified through an EU recognized voluntary scheme, such as ISCC EU. By reaching this milestone, we are leading the way in Europe’s green hydrogen economy, being one of the first to introduce RFNBO to the market.
Safe, reliable, and affordable green hydrogen to help decarbonize industry
Our green hydrogen - derived from our salt-water electrolysis-based chlorine and caustic production - helps our customers reduce the environmental footprint of their products, ultimately reducing the impact across the entire value chain. We can offer certified green hydrogen with a very low carbon footprint (at least 70% compared to benchmark fossil hydrogen) and certified by an accredited notified body according to various certification schemes (CertifHy/VertiCer/CMS70). The Nobian plant in Bitterfeld, Germany, is certified under the TÜV CMS 70® scheme.
Nobian has over 100 years of experience in electrolysis and produces certified green hydrogen from renewable energy at its chlor-alkali plants. We have also partnered with the Green Investment Group to develop large-scale water electrolysis projects through our joint venture HyCC (the Hydrogen Chemistry Company). Water electrolysis is the targeted production of pure hydrogen by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen.
