Hengelo is home to one of the largest vacuum salt plants in the world. The Nobian Hengelo production site operates a salt solution mining area in Hengelo, Enschede and Haaksbergen, as well as salt production and a fully integrated energy and utilities plant. With a focus on process safety and sustainability performance, many different professions contribute to the production and supply of the highest purity vacuum salt from Nobian Hengelo.
Salt is sustainably extracted from rock salt deposits at a depth of 400 to 500 meters in the Twente soil. We produce salt for the chemical industry and for de-icing. Salt has been extracted safely and responsibly in Twente by the same company for more than 100 years, since 1918 - the Royal Dutch Salt Industry (KNZ), which became AkzoNobel and is now Nobian.
